Why do my valve cover gaskets keep leaking?
I have a 89 Ford Crown Vic with the 5.0 engine and ny gaskets keep leaking valve cover. I tried different gaskets (cork, rubber and those with heavy metal inside) and after a few months the leaking started again all done by mechanics shop. Are they and I give anything?
Even in the most recent engines, a certain amount of flue gas find their way to and past the pistons into the crankcase, causing the gas pressure to accumulate in the engine. This pressure can easily cause joints failure. To avoid this, all engines are equipped with a crankcase ventilation tube. The tube is equipped with a unidirectional valve, and normally works from the top of the rocker cover in case the throttle carby. The expelled gas is recycled through the carby and burned. Suspect PCV valve stuck! Hope this helps. OZ
