I need help with my project to collect insects for biology!?
I have a project collection of insects due to biology during September. I work on during the summer and I need to answer some questions. 1. Should I freeze the insects killing them in a jar of "poison"? 2. How long should I freeze them? 3. How long they need to thaw? 4. How do I watch them and appropriate to the pin? 5. Where can I buy locally Pins insects? 6. How do I run the butterflies and butterfly wings out? 7. How can I make my best project? If anyone has advice or has this project before and can offer some help I would appreciate it!
1 - Do not kill anything with pretty wings in a jar of murder. Lie flat in an envelope and you can allow them to die or freeze. Something with a body drive can be killed easily in the pot, but you should remove dead insects from the jar as soon as possible. # 2 - Well, until they are dead. It is different for each insect, but 10 minutes will usually kill anything. # 3 - Just thaw if it will make more pin Easy ... I never do and they come out well. # 4 - As long as the pin goes right it should go. # 5 - What I do not know. I always buy mine the internet and have yet to find a place that sells them locally. You could ask your teacher or bio a professor of entomology where they get them. # 6 - There are several ways to try it. If you only need to spread a little you can try to hold them in place with pins and as they dry, they remain in place (which usually takes less than a day). If they are already dried in an awkward position enviable you can put it in a jar with some wet gauze around the lid for a while. The moisture in the jar relax insects and you allow the position. # 7 - Positioning is everything. A good positioning an insect will usually look breathtaking. Make sure they are clearly labeled for the community and family. If there is debris on them after killing them (like the scales of butterfly, etc.) you can use a soft brush to clean them.
