Why is my 11 yr old belly button piercing rejecting all belly rings now?
I have always used sterling silver or surgical stainless rings and never had a problem. Now, after 11 years, my body seems to be rejecting all rings including sterling and flex!
The piercing is inflamed, red and painful and seems to be forever dry. It will, at times, form hard, tiny, granules of some sort at each end of the piercing which I always check for. It will also develop a dry crust of skin, usually at the top hole, which I then peel away.
I have tried many ointments...the most recent (recommended by a piercer) is Triad Vitamin A & Vitamin D Ointment. I keep the area clean and regularly clean my rings but I'm still having trouble although the piercing isn't dry as long as I use the ointment.
Can anyone help me? I really don't want it to come to the point where I have to give it up!
Ointments aren't good for piercings at all...you need to figure out what is causing the dryness rather than just slather ointment on the piercing.
Are you wearing high quality body jewelry or is it cheap stuff? It sounds like your body is having reactions to the type of metal you're wearing. I'd try out implant grade titanium....you can buy plenty of body jewelry that is implant grade titanium either online or through your piercer. It's a very low allergy risk metal.
