Can you reuse a vintage seltzer bottle?
Are the caps on bottles of vintage and antique seltzer sealed permanently? I look make my own sodas a large cylinder of CO2 since I read about this on Yahoo Answers. If the caps are removable on the old glass bottles of soda, could you make soda water in a plastic soda bottle into the funnel and then the old bottle of soda? Has anyone done this? Thank you for info. I do not have a bottle of soda again. Most online (ebay) do not say what year they came from. A number said they MADE IN CZECHOSLOVAKIA. Do not say anything about age and / or safety?
I would suggest, but you tell us what vintage of the bottle. These can range from the late 1800s to the 1960s. The problem is really old ones used lead and lead in the gossip and mechanical seals. Here's what I suggest: 1. Date of your bottle, do not use any made before the 1940s (before WWII). If you use a safety, then yes, the top comes off and the CO2 cartridges only work if you have the screw on the media cartridge. If the above does not come off, it's probably the kind that you do not want. It would have added the acid to water, not CO2 in water, and would not come apart. 2. Look for the vintage type Seltz trigger that used to attach it to a glass bottle of soda (or 1 qt bottle of pop. soda that came with soda in it), new target for 1940 or more recent outbreak, then find a vintage glass seltzer Swank pop bottle and decant liter plastic inside. There are some great vintage bottles soda pop with graphics a cocktail if you get them. 3. Buy a new high of soda which screws onto a plastic liter soda water. They are made of plastic, but I have seen some very respectable ones. 4. Buy a new bottle of seltzer reproduction using CO2 cartridges. Good luck.
