Vintage anime, can not find the title for the life of me?

The scenario goes like this if I remember correctly (last time that I saw when I was 8 years ... im 21 now so im guessing that this is an oldie): The story is pretty much based on a Theme from Romeo and Juliet, where 2 families are in disagreement, but the son of a family's daughter and the other begins to love one another. Families are families of nature sprites, I think the boy is a type of newt and the female is a sprite of fire .... the boy from the water also has a boyfriend who looks like a chibi Merman ... who ended up dying by falling rocks at him or something to that effect. Also, if a member of the family to touch each other ... it would die or be injured or sumtin like that. Man I can not believe I even remembered that much of this, but it has been haunting me for years to know the title of this anime vintage ... Sheet music for it .... has been great if I could get suggestions or conjecture fans EDUCATED Anime that would be awesome

The only one I could think is "Mermaid Marina ... Sorry, that's all I got ...
